TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE Taken by Dennis Mammana on August 21, 2017 @ Victor, Idaho, USA

Rather than the ubiquitous corona and diamond ring shots from the August 21 total solar eclipse, this is a photo of the suns chromosphere (the reddish layer of the solar atmosphere directly above the photosphere) and shows several hot-pink prominences extending far off of the suns face.

While this photo was shot through a small telescope, the color and prominences were easily visible to the unaided eye!

Photo details: Shot at 11:36:33 MDT with a Nikon D750, a Sigma 2x teleconverter and a University Optics 80mm refractor, ISO 200, f/12 at 1/1000 second.
