SETTING SUN, WAXING MOON Taken by Peter Lowenstein on February 15, 2016 @ Mutare, Zimbabwe

Yesterday, 15 February, the setting sun gave way to a waxing moon in spectacular fashion as it disappeared below the horizon near a repeater station to the west of Mutare. A light aircraft possibly laden with precious cargo from the nearby Marange diamond fields briefly transited the scene. A few minutes later the glorious red sunset colors gave way to a spectacular display of crepuscular rays and a fading twilight arch as the last traces of fair weather cloud disappeared from view. Meanwhile the waxing moon shone brightly in the darkening evening sky immediately overhead. Altogether a memorable display at the end of yet another hot drought period day.
